Ellyrian Reavers

This is the unit of Ellyrian Reavers which I painted in 2014. They are also part of my High Elves army and will be a good addition to bring some mobility to the forces.

It is painted following the general scheme of the army, and the theme of the bases is water to simulate that they are galloping over the shore. Click on the photos if you want to see them a bit bigger, for better appreciation of the details.

Kasrkin Sergeant (scratch built in 54mm)

Ever since I started sculpting, I wanted to make my own version of an Imperial Guard Kasrkin. I loved the concept art by Karl Kopinsky, and I loved the original 30mm miniatures by Juan Díaz released by GW. It took me quite some time since I first thought about it and when I finally did it, but I managed to do it in the end.

The sculpture was done entirely in Milliput, and it took quite some time to be completed because I did it in between other projects. Also, it was the first sculpture I have separated in parts to be casted afterwards.

My first intention was to enter Golden Demon in the category of Large Scale with it. While I was sculpting it, GW decided to erase the category from their contest, and even though I was really disappointed because of this, I wanted to finish it for fun. I really enjoyed it. I managed to make a few copies of the sculpture before I painted it.

This first painted version of the Kasrkin Sergeant was presented in the Spring Angel 2013 and Monte San Savino 2013. In both contests, it took Bronze in its category, normally the most difficult one (Full Scratch/Creation/Open).

Brad&Yanet, Painting Buddha Season 1.1 Target Identified

This couple is already very well known all around the Internet. I present you Brad & Yanet, the two assasins which are the object of the Painting Buddha DVDs, season 1.1 Target Identified.

This is the version I painted for my part of the DVD. They were done in a very short period of time, about 4 days, the one we had to record the videos. As the painting progressed, ideas for colours and ambience came to mind, and it finally turned out, as you can see, as some sort of scene based around an alternate steampunk United States of America.

Painting the miniatures was very easy and fun. If you want to know how I did it (and also, how Ben did his version, the other one you can see in the photos below) make sure you connect to www.paintingbuddha.com and grab your own set of the first season. Totally worth it!

Comments about the minis or the DVDs are more than welcome, as always. I hope you enjoyed the videos!

Achilles, Champion of the AI

Achilles is probably the most representative miniature of Aleph in Infinity. This creature is an artificial representation of what Achilles the Greek hero would look like in the future, transformed into a soul-less android, a weapon of mass destruction in human size. I fell in love with all the Aleph miniatures ever since they were released and I wanted to give Infinity an opportunity. So here you have my first Infinity miniature ever: Achilles.

It was an absolute pleasure to paint. The quality of the sculpture is amazing, and everything is ultra detailed and tiny (it's a 30mm miniature!). Outlining is crutial in this kind of miniatures, so I decided to prime black and save time, even though the miniature ends up much darker than what I usually paint. Anyhow, I think the dark atmosphere goes well with the colour scheme I chose, similar to the concept art in terms of ambience and palette, but using the colours differently. Also, it has a minor conversion in the hair to make it look more like the original concept art. This will not be the only Infinity miniature I paint, for sure. Probably some more Aleph will follow, who knows, maybe even build a band for myself!

Achilles traveled to the Spring Angel 2013 and won Gold in Sci-Fi Single.

Comments welcome as always!

Swordmasters of Hoeth

The old Volomir's Blog is not in use anymore.
You're currently being redirected to volomir.com, it will only take a few moments.

These are the Swordmasters of Hoeth painted as part of my future High Elves army. It's taking me forever because of the painting standard I want for all the army, but I think it's worth it. These guys went to Golden Demon Germany 2013 and they won Silver in the Fantasy Unit category, and also won Gold in the Unit category of the Spring Angel 2013.

Any comments are more than welcome, as usual.

High Elf Dragonlord

This is the High Elf Dragonlord which I started converting in 2010. Working on it went on and off until I finally decided to finish it in 2013. This has been the piece that has roamed my workbench the longest so finishing it brought me a lot of peace. He will be one of the most important pieces in my High Elf Army.

Click on the photos for super high definition pictures (you've never seen photos of minis THAT big). Don't forget to check out the endless Step by Step Article. Any comments are very welcome and greatly appreciated, as usual.

The Dragonlord went to Golden Demon Germany 2013 and won Gold in the Fantasy Monster category, the one where competition was probably the hardest. There are many people who I should thank for helping me greatly during the process of making it happen. I want to thank you all: the initial ideas and poses by Azotitos(Lord_azoth), the inestimable advice and help with the base by Jorge Valdés (lord_jasegev), the motivation, endurance and support from both my roomates Mike Young and Luis Alonso, the neverending and valuable council and help from master Elias Alonso (Morsi) and the essential emotional support of Mary Williams. And of course, each and everyone of you who followed the WIP article all those months, readers and commenters of the Internet. You guys made it possible. Thank you.

And now some pics of details which should not be missed (the following photos are not clickable for super high resolution, remember to click on the pics above for that):
