Painting Crusade X (Miniatures)

Now that I have slept a little bit to compensate for the weekend, I can share with you guys some photos of what was going on in Painting Crusade X.

I was absolutely honoured to be able to be one of the judges, with two of my favourite artists, Roman Lappat (jarhead from Massive Voodoo) and Cyril Abati (a living legend from whom I learnt to paint Space Marines). Regarding miniatures and winners, the level was absolutely insane. We spent a lot of time trying to decide winners, and I left with a huge headache, but it was very well worth it. Participation was average, but even though it is not a big contest, the quality of the entries is breathtaking, and you have miniatures from artists as big as Ben Komets, David Waeselynk, Raffaele Picca or Benoit Menard competing altogether. Absolutely amazing.

Trophies in Master of painting (displays) were divided like this:

  • Bronze for Gautier Giraud, David Waeselynk and Cedric Lurkin.
  • Silver for Ben Komets and Benoit Menard.
  • Gold for Raffaele Picca.

And regarding Golden Edmon (three trophies to the best miniatures of the contest) went to:

  • Bronze Edmon to Raffaele Picca for Untold Honor
  • Silver Edmon to Benoit Menard for his Ork Pirate Bust
  • Gold Edmon to Ben Komets for his Alice in Wonderland (sculpted by Ernst Veingart)

Best of Show, given by the Painting Crusade organization, went to Benoit Menard for his Ork Pirate Bust, and he will be part of the jury next year.

And now check the photos of the miniatures!

My own minis in a box. Always scary transportation!

Does this Éowyn remind you of something? :)
I will try to gather up a nice set of photos of the ambience and tell you about the weekend. I will do my best to make it to Brussels next year for Painting Crusade XI!!!

I totally missed Cyril's space marines. They were in the cabinet below, right? Too bad that area was poorly lit.

My report is coming soon, in the meantime you can check out this video I made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1364IHw6YGw. You're in it too, I hope you don't mind :)

Feel free to spread the YouTube link around if you like it.

Of course Gerrie, it's an honour for me! Thank you so much! I'm sorry there are no photos of your miniatures, I just took photos of Master and Sculpting because I didn't have much time to do so. Hope to see you next time!

No problem at all, they weren't remotely as good as the ones you posted here :D with a report like that you have to make choices ;)

Thanks Rafa :)

Awesome report and awesome results! I don't particularly envy the judges having to come up with a verdict on so many high class miniatures!

Good job!

It's great to see so much coverage of this great event!
It really was an honor to experience this great competition (and score a little bit-bronze in confirmé)
Thanks to all the judges & redshirts

I wish there were events like this in Canada. I am constantly in awe by the level of talent in Europe, and would love to take a holiday there just to meet all the painters/take part in a painting seminar. Could any of you come to Calgary? I have a spare couch!
