Golden Demon Germany 2013 Part 1

Back from Germany!

Nice pic Michael!

What an amazing weekend this has been. A lot of painting prior to the contest had to be done, and I sadly missed the painters dinner and gathering at the Mercure Hotel, but it was worth it.

The level of the contest this year was absolutely mind-blowing. The reason may have been that GD France and GD Spain are out of combat this year, or maybe that the painting level in Germany has risen in the past two years to something I could never imagine. In any case, the fact is that Elías Alonso (Morsi) and I had the feeling that this may have very well been one of the best GDs in terms of painting level that we have ever been to.

As usual, I will start my review by presenting some photos of the miniatures that I could take during the day. The quality of the pics is absolutely awful, I'm really sorry about it, but the lights in the cabinets were awful (really, really, really bad). Also, I started taking photos from the Open category (the last one) and then onwards, and I had to stop at Single Fantasy because they were taking away the most interesting models for judging and photos. This means I did not take any photos from all the 40k categories (Single, Unit, Monster, Vehicle). So as you can see, the report is very limited but you can always check masterminis.net or massivevoodoo.com for more information.

We had the pleasure and privilege of staying with Philip Prinz in Köln together with the guys from Massive Voodoo, so we had direct access to this year's very well deserved Slayersword Diorama, from crazy Roman Lappat, with around 130 figures... I don't need to say more. Some bad pics that will give you a rough idea of this epic construction:

Stay tuned for some photos of the people!

It was a really hard competition this year but also really nice to meet so many awesome painters!

Big congrats to all the winers especially to Roman and his slayer sword. :-)
